Cycling is one of those sports that being English, I just don’t get. A bit like speedskating in Holland. Funnily enough, Bas is a big fan of both. As a proud Friesian he even knows all 11 cities of the Elfstedentocht (if Femke helps him).

But the Dutch fascination with the Tour de France, and the mountain stages in particular, I do understand. I mean, it involves hills, the most precious commodity in The Netherlands next to good English writers.
